Satellite internet can make remote work possible where fibre and mobile data stop. The right setup depends less on a headline speed figure than on coverage, latency, power and the way your team actually works.

Start with the work, not the equipment.

A field team sharing files, a rural home office and a travelling crew need different things. List the services that must work, how many people will connect and whether a short outage is acceptable before comparing plans or hardware.

Check coverage where you will use it

Coverage maps, local rules and service availability can differ by country and even by location. Confirm the exact site and any planned travel locations before committing to equipment.

Plan for latency and real-time work

Video calls, cloud desktops and voice services are more sensitive to delay than email or downloads. Test the workflows your team relies on and keep an alternate connection for calls that cannot fail.

Do the power calculation

Terminals, routers and laptops need a reliable power plan. Include cable runs, weather protection, a battery buffer and a charging method if you will work off grid.

Build a backup path

Satellite is one layer of resilience, not a reason to remove every other one. Where possible, pair it with local mobile data, a second carrier or an offline process for essential work.

Before departure, confirm that the plan supports your intended location, the equipment has a clear view of the sky, power is available for a full working day and each critical service has been tested. Document the setup so someone else can restore it if needed.
